PCB Reviews Asia Cup 2025 Referee Controversy Ahead of UAE Match

PCB Finalizing Decision on Asia Cup 2025 Referee Controversy

Islamabad – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that internal discussions are ongoing, with a final decision expected later today regarding its participation in the Asia Cup 2025.

A PCB spokesperson emphasized that the board’s ultimate decision will prioritize Pakistan’s interests, amid widespread speculation about the team’s next steps in the tournament.

Earlier reports indicated that the dispute surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 had been addressed, as match referee Andy Pycroft was replaced for Pakistan’s upcoming game against the United Arab Emirates. Sources said that the International Cricket Council (ICC) had acceded to Pakistan’s demand for a change in the match official.

The controversy erupted during Pakistan’s group match against India, when the Indian team allegedly refused to shake hands with Pakistan’s players and captain at both the toss and the conclusion of the match. Tensions escalated after Pycroft reportedly instructed Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha not to shake hands with his Indian counterpart, sparking allegations of partiality.

In response, Pakistan took a firm stance, insisting on Pycroft’s removal and warning that they would not play any further matches unless the referee was replaced.
