PIA Resumes U.S Flights Eyes UK Relaunch

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is preparing to resume direct flights to the United States after reaching an agreement with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to resolve longstanding financial issues, which is a major step toward restoring PIA’s operations to the U.S.

The airline had suspended its six weekly flights to the United States in 2017 when Pakistan lost its Category One aviation status. Regaining this status is essential for allowing direct flights to resume, and this recent agreement marks significant progress toward achieving that goal.

In addition to its efforts to restart U.S. operations, PIA is also focusing on resuming flights to the United Kingdom. The airline expects to relaunch UK flights by March 2024, following a positive evaluation by the European Union’s aviation authorities. This development comes after years of suspension due to regulatory challenges.

The successful return of flights to both the U.S. and the UK is seen as a crucial step for PIA. It is expected to improve the airline’s operations and significantly increase revenue, boosting its position in the global aviation market.
