PM Sharif Highlights Pakistan Reforms

PM Highlights Pakistan’s Reforms in Meeting with World Bank President

New York: Prime Minister Sharif met with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, updating him on Pakistan’s wide-ranging reform agenda. The discussions covered efforts in resource mobilization, energy sector reforms, privatization, and measures aimed at building resilience against climate change.

The Prime Minister highlighted that these reforms have played a key role in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy, restoring investor confidence, and promoting sustainable, inclusive growth.

Sharif also praised Banga’s leadership in transforming the World Bank into a more efficient and responsive development partner, emphasizing the institution’s focus on streamlining operations and mobilizing private sector resources. He acknowledged the Bank’s steadfast support for Pakistan, especially during the COVID-19 crisis and the devastating floods of 2022.

In response, President Banga welcomed Pakistan’s reform initiatives and reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting the country’s development agenda. He underlined the Bank’s readiness to assist in advancing economic reforms and implementing long-term climate resilience projects under the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF).

Both leaders reiterated their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and working together to achieve Pakistan’s development priorities.
