PM Shehbaz Reviews Flood Situation in Punjab Amid Rising Death Toll

Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a comprehensive briefing on the country’s ongoing flood crisis from Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lt Gen Inam Haider, ahead of his departure for an aerial survey of the affected areas.

The Prime Minister was updated on the rescue and relief operations currently underway in the submerged regions, with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif accompanying him during the visit.

During the aerial survey of flood-hit districts, PM Shehbaz directed authorities to implement all necessary measures for flood prevention, as well as the swift execution of rescue and relief efforts. A detailed briefing for both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister is scheduled in Narowal.

The riverine flooding in Punjab has so far claimed at least 25 lives, following heavy monsoon rains and the upstream release of water from India into the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers. Among the casualties, five members of a family perished in Sambarial, Sialkot district, while 15 deaths were reported in Gujranwala division, four in Gujrat, three in Narowal, and two in Hafizabad district.

Floodwaters have submerged hundreds of villages in districts including Kasur, Narowal, and Pindi Bhattian, leaving thousands homeless and causing widespread devastation.
