PM Shehbaz Sharif on SCO 2027 and Islamabad Upgrades

PM Shehbaz Sharif Highlights SCO Summit Preparations, Urban Development, and Anti-Terror Efforts

Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s preparations to host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in 2027, calling for early planning to ensure the event’s success.

Speaking on development and environmental initiatives, the premier said efforts are underway to enhance the beauty of Constitution Avenue, while introducing electric vehicle (EV) transport as part of the government’s green initiatives.

“The federal government is committed to improving travel facilities for the public and making Islamabad a more modern and attractive city,” he added.

Highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects, PM Shehbaz Sharif pointed to the T-Chowk Flyover as a key milestone for residents of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby areas. “This one-kilometer flyover will improve access to the Expressway and surrounding localities,” he noted.

Earlier, on September 1, the prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, including what he described as “state terrorism.” Speaking at the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO, he cited irrefutable evidence of foreign involvement in the recent Jaffar Express train hostage incident.

Pakistan, he said, has made unparalleled sacrifices in the fight against extremism, losing over 90,000 lives and bearing economic losses exceeding $152 billion. “Those who have long exploited terrorism for political gain must know that the world no longer accepts this narrative,” PM Shehbaz Sharif remarked, noting foreign elements were involved in recent terror incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
