PM Shehbaz Urges Upgrade of Pakistan’s Tourism Infrastructure

PM Shehbaz Highlights Pakistan’s Tourism Potential and Calls for Infrastructure Upgrades

In a high-level meeting on Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Pakistan’s incredible natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, saying the country holds a unique place among the world’s top tourism destinations.

PM Shehbaz pointed out the diverse attractions Pakistan offers — from majestic mountains and serene valleys to ancient sites like those of the Indus Valley civilisation. “Allah Almighty has blessed Pakistan with extraordinary natural resources and mesmerising beauty,” he said, emphasizing that this natural wealth gives Pakistan a special and important standing globally.

To unlock this potential, the prime minister instructed relevant authorities to quickly develop a detailed plan to promote key tourist destinations, including Islamabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. He emphasized the need to upgrade tourism infrastructure by constructing high-quality hotels, resorts, and recreational facilities.

During the meeting, officials discussed the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, as well as the infrastructure needed to support tourism growth. PM Shehbaz stressed that a strategic tourism policy must be created to meet international standards and establish Pakistan as a preferred choice for global travelers.

Advance Weather Alerts and Climate Resilience

Earlier, amid the ongoing monsoon-related devastation across the country, PM Shehbaz had called for the establishment of an advanced weather alert system for tourist areas based on seasonal forecasts. He also directed authorities to relocate local communities away from natural water channels to reduce risks during emergencies.

While chairing a meeting focused on recent floods and rehabilitation efforts in Gilgit-Baltistan, the prime minister underlined the importance of early warning systems, preparedness for relief operations, and building climate-resilient infrastructure in vulnerable regions to address the growing challenges of climate change.
