PM Approves New Plan to Boost Youth Employment in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a new plan to help young people in Pakistan secure employment and acquire valuable skills. The decision was made during a special meeting on youth employment.
This new plan follows a “Pay-for-Success” model. In this model, training programs will focus on skills that are needed in today’s job market. The government or donors will only pay for the training after it is proven that young people have found jobs or increased their income.
The Prime Minister asked officials to expedite efforts to train young people in skills that can lead to genuine job opportunities. He said the training should help youth find jobs in Pakistan and also in other countries.
The Prime Minister praised the work of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, NAVTTC, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, and other groups helping youth.
He also stated that young people should learn foreign languages to enhance their job prospects abroad. A comprehensive plan should be developed to outline the number of job openings available in Pakistan and other countries. Progress on this plan will be checked every two months.
“The training of skilled workers for overseas jobs should be a top priority,” he added.
He also said that there should be a strong campaign to tell young people about job options on the Digital Youth Hub platform.
Officials shared that more than 500,000 people have signed up on the Digital Youth Hub. The app has been downloaded over 1.7 million times. More than 500 companies are using the platform, offering over 47,000 jobs in Pakistan and 100,000 jobs in other countries. The platform also offers more than 2,000 scholarships.
Over 500 organizations, including Pakistani embassies, government offices, private companies, NGOs, and groups like the United Nations, are connected to the platform.
