Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Usman Dar and his mother have received a defamation notice of Rs1 billion, according to Khawaja Asif, the central leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).
According to the notice, Dar and his mother made up accusations to harm Asif’s reputation. Dar and his mother, Rehana Dar, were required to pay Rs. 1 billion in damages within 14 days of receiving the defamation notice.
Both lawmakers are from Sialkot; Asif won over Dar in the 2018 National Assembly elections from the NA-73 constituency.
Rehana accused Asif of planning the police action and of being abused by the raiding party following a raid on Dar’s home earlier in the month.
Dar’s mother made a video statement in which she claimed that someone had broken into her home and had manhandled, pulled her hair, and torn her clothes.
“They [Asif] sent 20 people to my house when they heard that I was submitting my nomination papers,” the woman had stated. In addition, she urged Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa to take appropriate action.
Asif, a prominent member of the PML-N, stated on December 20 on the Geo News program “Capital Talk” that Dar seemed to want to repair his declining reputation after leaving politics.
In response to the accusations, Asif had stated that they could easily obtain fresh nomination papers if any PTI candidate’s were stolen. “The PTI is distorting certain facts. They are fleeing the next elections.”
He had repeatedly and unequivocally refuted the accusations, claiming that he was not involved in “such vengeful politics” and that he had always shown respect for the families of his political opponents.
Hasan Iqbal, the District Police Officer (DPO) of Sialkot, had also released a video message confirming the raid to apprehend Usman’s brother, “absconding suspect Umar Dar.”
He refuted the allegations that the women had been physically attacked during the raid.
