During his latest guest appearance on The Rafay Mahmood Podcast, Pakistani actor, singer, and comedian Ali Safina discussed a range of topics related to his personal and professional lives. Recognized for his diverse range of performances, Safina talked about the difficulties facing Pakistan’s music business, his experiences with Ramadan plays and broadcasts, and the secret to a successful marriage.
Safina, who is now filming the romantic comedy series Very Filmy during Ramadan, thought about how difficult it is to shoot dramas during the month of fasting. “Our Ramazan shoots are very fun,” he remarked, shedding insight on the demanding schedule that performers and crew members go through throughout the production process. People typically find some downtime throughout their regular 9 to 5 workdays. Unfortunately, there is no such relaxation for the workers and actors.
Ramazan plays and broadcasts
“Usually, it’s because of our Ramazan show that we are working on, and typically we start filming for it two months before Ramazan,” he continued, describing the season of celebration and work in more detail. A daily episode airs towards the end, and the finishing touches are increasingly important.
Partly due to the stigma associated with the performing arts, there is a widespread misconception that those in show business are careless with their religious commitments. “As for worship, I think we observe religious rituals more consciously than many since we are always under scrutiny,” Safina said, drawing from personal experience.
The 40-year-old provided a sophisticated response to the allegation that Ramazan broadcasts are mostly about materialism rather than spirituality. “It takes money and effort to gather such a big crowd,” he said. “Blessings and spirituality are gifts from God.”
“You see the dastarkhwan (tablecloth) or when people take home things they win,” he continued. Why is it bothering the 25 crore people if a bike is going to someone’s house? Which spirituality are you looking for? For ghosts to come down from above?
The Fairy Tale star continued, discussing his choice to turn down annual invitations to lead Ramadan broadcasts because he was worried about how the public would see him. “Every year I am offered a Ramazan transmission, and I was offered to host this year too,” he said. “I always struggle with the fact that I am working on so many different types of projects in my thoughts. What would people think about me if I accept the invitation to host?”
