The leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has declared that the party rejects the results of the just finished elections and extended an invitation to Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), to join him on the opposition benches in parliament.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday in Islamabad, Fazl questioned the voting process’s openness and criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) performance.
The leader of the JUI-F said, “Today, our central committee met, which has rejected the election results and expressed reservations about the role of the Election Commission of Pakistan, but JUI-F will play its role in the parliament and will attend it with reservations.”
He said that “anti-Islamic forces” were manipulating the election process. He emphasized the party’s dedication to upholding solid ties between Afghanistan and Pakistan, saying that the US and Israel had rejected their efforts in this respect.
“JUI-F is an ideological force that won’t back down from a fight on matters of national concern. “We will lead the movement to achieve our larger objectives,” Faazl proclaimed, adding, “The ECP’s role has been dubious from the beginning.”
He continued by saying that the election results showed widespread bribery and that intimidation and threats were directed towards the party’s workers and candidates. Tension was raised for the polls, according to Maulana Fazl, who claimed that the police were being held captive in a number of areas.
He questioned the legitimacy of the election process, saying, “If the establishment thinks that the election has been transparent, then their narrative of May 9 tragedy is over.” He encouraged Nawaz Sharif to join the opposition in their protest against the purported anomalies and invited him to do so.
In response to queries, he made it clear that there was a disagreement with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over ideas rather than physical weapons. In the event if the PTI’s position altered, he hinted at the possibility of reconciliation.
In closing, Fazl declared that the JUI-F would launch nationwide protests to demand the ratification of their demands.
Fazl emphasized that the level of electoral manipulation in the most recent one exceeded even that of the polls from 2018. He said that the entire election process was rigged and accused the Pakistani Election Commission of being controlled by the establishment.
Bribes were used to sway both wins and losses in the election, holding it hostage. We are responding by starting a national demonstration campaign to support democracy. Decisions are now going to be taken outside of parliament, in the field,” said Fazl.
“We did not come to the field hastily; we have made thorough preparations,” he declared, reiterating the party’s position and highlighting their independence and readiness. We do not support the PML-N or any other political party. Since our party has forbade Shehbaz Sharif from establishing a government, we would not support him for prime minister in the legislature. We will not participate in any government as a result. People who think that elections are rigged ought to support us, while others are free to stay neutral.”
