The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced on Sunday that it will be reorganizing its presence in Punjab, the party’s primary heartland and largest province.
The PTI Central Punjab General Secretary and Acting President, Hammad Azhar, made the announcement about the party’s plan to reorganize its activities throughout the province.
In view of the resignation of previous office-bearers elected to the assembly, he emphasized the necessity for permanent office-bearers in every district of Punjab.
Citing legal issues that prevented him from carrying out his duties, Azhar resigned last week from his positions as the PTI Central Punjab General Secretary and interim Central Punjab President.
Azhar detailed the difficulties he was under in a letter to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan. These difficulties included being involved in many court matters and being prohibited from using electronic media by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
He talked of his family being harassed and raided from their house, and how they had to go overseas for protection. Notwithstanding these challenges, Azhar has been working for the party since May 2023 from an unknown location.
After giving it some thought, Azhar announced his decision to resign from his positions, citing his dedication to the party’s goals and concern for its welfare. He promised to continue working for PTI with loyalty and conviction.
PTI, on the other hand, urged Azhar to continue doing his duties and rejected his resignation. Gohar disclosed that he had spoken with Imran Khan, the party’s founder, about the issue, and that Khan had given them the order to reject Azhar resignation. He praised Azhar’s bravery and devotion in the face of PTI difficulties.
Azhar recognized the burden of duty put on him during this challenging time and expressed thanks for Imran Khan’s trust. He committed himself to keeping Imran’s confidence and to serving the party with diligence.
