State news agency Xinhua reported on Friday that Chinese President Xi Jinping urged Afghanistan’s “relevant parties” to exterminate terrorism and offered to provide additional assistance to the war-torn nation.
Afghanistan and China both share a land border, and the Taliban has formed a new government in Afghanistan. As U.S.-led foreign soldiers concluded their 20-year presence in August, the Islamist terrorist organization seized back control.
According to a report from the agency, Xi urged leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and another regional body that Afghanistan should be guided to be more open and inclusive and follow moderate internal and foreign policies.
With obvious allusion to the United States and its allies; Xi said that certain nations should take responsibility for future development in Afghanistan as “instigators” of the current situation.
According to experts, Afghanistan’s economy is in disarray, and a humanitarian catastrophe is imminent. It’s understandable that Western governments are wary of sending money to the Taliban unless they receive assurances that the Taliban will respect human rights, particularly those of women.
The United States and its allies have an obligation to provide Afghanistan with economic and humanitarian aid; according to China, which has committed aid and COVID-19 vaccine doses.
