Prince Harry’s Heartfelt VJ Day Tribute Moves King Charles

Prince Harry Sends Touching Tribute to King Charles on VJ Day

Prince Harry quietly made a heartfelt gesture that touched the heart of his father, King Charles. The Duke of Sussex penned a moving letter honoring both the “forgotten army” and his late grandfather, Prince Philip, which was placed at the National Memorial Arboretum on the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.

In a private moment, Harry and a friend laid the note alongside a wreath of red poppies at the Burma Star Memorial, shortly after King Charles and Queen Camilla attended the official service.

Royal historian Dr. Tessa Dunlop described the gesture as “heartwarming,” noting that Harry’s military background added extra weight to the tribute. Speaking to the Mirror, she said, “Last week’s VJ Day anniversary was full of emotion; a sombre reminder of the cost of conflict 80 years after the Pacific War, beneath the peaceful calm of Staffordshire’s National Memorial Arboretum.”

She added, “Thirty-three veterans were honoured by King Charles, who promised they would never be forgotten—a perfect day, yet one that overlooked his son, Prince Harry, once the Royal Family’s most dedicated military figure.”

Dr. Dunlop praised Harry’s letter as “thoughtful,” highlighting its vivid reflection on the “unforgiving terrain” and years of service endured far from home by military personnel. She added that the message “served to remind King and country of the gap left by Harry’s absence in royal commemorations.”

Reports suggest that King Charles, who had a deep bond with his late father, was moved to tears upon receiving his son’s touching tribute.
