PTI alleges that Sher Afzal Marwat was "abducted" in K-P

According to the former ruling party, Sher Afzal Marwat, the Senior Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was reportedly detained on Monday while traveling to the Bajaur province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PTI said on its official account that Marwat was “kidnapped” from Chakdara while traveling to Bajaur for a worker’s convention that was set to take place on Saturday.

The social media post from the party said, “We demand his immediate release. These forms of coercion are ineffective and unworkable. Any attempts at pre-poll rigging must be swiftly put an end to.”

PTI appealed once more to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to look into the claimed kidnapping and wrongful arrest as soon as possible.

Chakdara Road was closed as a result of PTI workers’ demonstrations against Marwat’s arrest.

Following the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Marwat and PTI employees for planning a workers’ convention in Swabi last Saturday, this development has occurred. Authorities accused other people as well as 21 local PTI leaders of breaking Section 144.

The district administration is empowered to enact a complete ban on any kind of unlawful or unauthorised gathering, rally, assembly, protest, or gathering of more than five individuals under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898.

In two earlier cases, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had awarded Marwat protective bail. He was the subject of a lawsuit in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) in October for allegedly inciting the populace against government institutions on social media.

In August, more than ninety PTI workers were taken into custody in several K-P areas for organizing protests against the imprisonment of Imran Khan, the party’s founder chairman
