To compete for reserved seats, PTI-backed candidates will join the Sunni Ittehad Council

PTI-backed candidates will join the Sunni Ittehad Council

Leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Barrister Gohar Khan, declared on Monday that independent candidates supported by the party will formally join the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab as well as the National Assembly (NA).

The event occurred one day after SIC chief Sahibzada Hamid Raza and senior PTI leaders Barrister Gohar and Omar Ayub visited the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Central Secretariat in Islamabad to discuss the possibility of increased collaboration in the legislature and at the provincial level.

In attendance were Allama Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi, Vice Chairman of MWM, and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri.

The political climate of the nation and significant concerns following the recently held elections and their results were covered in the discussion.

The party, which was prevented from directly participating in elections by the non-allocation of electoral symbols, seeks to use the platforms of other like-minded parties to secure its fair share of reserved seats for minorities and women.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Islamabad today, Barrister Gohar stated that the independent candidates supported by the PTI are mandated by law to join any party within three days of the notification being issued.

He claimed that the decision to join SIC was made in unanimity and asked that the PTI’s reserved seats be distributed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in accordance with the law.

According to the PTI’s top official, the party will also send documents to the ECP today in this regard.

The PTI leader reaffirmed the accusation of rigging during the press conference, asserting that his party had secured 180 NA seats in the polls conducted on February 8.

But according to the ECP’s results, the candidates supported by the PTI have secured up to 92 seats in the National Assembly.

Omar Ayub, the PM candidate for the PTI, declared during the event that his party will form the government in the Center.

“Once the government is formed, our first priority will be to secure the release of Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan, the founder of the PTI.”

Sahibzada Hamid Raza, the head of SIC, informed the media that imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan has given his approval for the plan to establish an alliance with the PTI.

He declared that his party opposes hate politics. “Every sect is supporting the PTI,” he continued.
