Tomorrow, the ECP will hear appeals against PTI intra-party polls

Elections in AI's age

Following its decision last week to send notices to various party leaders and members, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will hear complaints over the recently held intra-party elections of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Tuesday, December 12.

Akbar S. Babar, the former information secretary and PTI founder, along with twelve other individuals, had sued the ECP against the intra-party elections.

Additionally, the ECP scheduled 15 cases/representations for Monday (today) that were related to Lahore’s National Assembly (NA) constituency.

The ECP cause list for December 11 states that NA-118, 119, 121, 122, 123, 126, 128, 129, and 130, Lahore, will be the subject of representations.

As required by law under the Elections Act of 2017, the ECP released the final list of delineation of National Assembly and four province assembly’ constituencies on November 30.

On Tuesday, December 12, the ECP will reopen the contempt case against Fawad Chaudhry, the former leader of the PTI, regarding his media appearance on January 24 of this year, during which he is accused of using derogatory language and making disrespectful remarks against the electoral body.

He had responded to the relevant notice, but the ECP had rejected it.

The Pakistani Election Commission, meanwhile, refuted rumors that it had made the general election date public on February 8.

False reports about elections were periodically released to the print and electronic media, according to an ECP spokesman. He advised, “Pay no attention to any statement attributed to the Election Commission other than the commission spokesman.”

He said that the election timetable had not yet been released and that such a comment should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the Election Commission’s policies. He explained, “The election schedule that is making the rounds on social media is not real.”
