Unexpectedly, two of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s former chief ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lost the most recent general elections and were unable to retain their positions.
Pervez Khattak, who was Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s chief minister from 2013 to 2018 and the country’s defense minister thereafter, lost elections for both the National and Provincial Assembly seats.
Unofficial results from all 319 polling places in NA-33 Nowshera 1 revealed that Syed Shah Ahad Ali Shah, an independent who received backing from the PTI, won with 90,145 votes. With 25,582 votes, PTI parliamentarian Parvaiz Khattak took second place.
Mehmood Khan, the PTI’s chosen chief minister in the 2018 general elections, also suffered a setback. PTI Parliamentarian Mehmood Khan finished third with 16,813 votes in NA-4 Swat after independent candidate Sohail Sultan, who received support from the PTI, won with 88,099 votes.
