From July 2025, the government has officially stopped charging the Rs35 monthly PTV fee on electricity bills.
This change was made after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered it. All electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) have been told to remove the fee from bills.
The removal of this fee will help millions of people and businesses across Pakistan. Around 40 million electricity users will benefit. The fee used to bring in about Rs1.5 billion every month for PTV, but now it will no longer be collected.
Earlier, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) also decided to reduce the electricity price by Rs1.50 per unit. This means people will have to pay a bit less for electricity.
The new average electricity price will be Rs34 per unit. NEPRA has sent this decision to the federal government, and it will be officially announced once the government decides on the subsidies.
