Panic Button System Introduced in Punjab Women’s Colleges
LAHORE – The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has rolled out a panic button system in women’s colleges, aiming to enhance safety for students.
In the first phase, the system has been installed in 39 institutions, with plans to expand it to over 450 colleges across the province, a PSCA spokesperson said on Saturday.
The panic buttons are directly linked to the authority’s central control room. When pressed, they send an instant alert to the Virtual Women Police Station, ensuring a swift police response. Officials said the technology is designed to give students immediate access to help, particularly in situations where mobile phones may not be available.
Currently, panic buttons are already in place at 122 sites in Lahore and 101 more in other cities. Extending the facility to colleges marks a major step forward in Punjab’s public safety network.
The PSCA spokesperson added that the initiative reflects a technology-driven strategy to create safer learning environments and help students feel more secure on campus.
