Punjab Launches E-Taxi Scheme 2025 to Modernise Transport and Create Jobs
Lahore, Punjab – The Punjab government is set to roll out the CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2025, aiming to modernise the province’s transport system, generate employment, and reduce pollution in major cities. The Punjab Transport Department has confirmed that applications for the scheme will be handled through an online portal developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
A unique feature of the initiative is that 30 electric taxis will be reserved exclusively for women, providing them with a safe and empowering opportunity in the transport sector. Additionally, the government will cover the markup, token tax, and registration fees, meaning drivers will only need to pay the basic instalments.
How to Apply
Applicants can apply through the PITB online portal once it goes live. The process involves:
Preparing essential documents such as CNIC, driving licence, and proof of Punjab residency.
Fleet owners must provide company details and SECP or NTN registration.
Creating an account on the portal and completing the e-taxi application form.
Selecting the type of application—individual driver or fleet owner.
Choosing an instalment plan and reviewing the payment schedule.
Submit the form and await eligibility verification.
If approved, applicants will receive an offer letter with details on vehicle delivery and training.
Scheme Details
In the first phase, 1,000 taxis will be allocated to fleet owners and 100 to individual drivers, including 30 taxis specifically for women. The fleet will feature electric sedans and hatchbacks, offering a range of up to 300 kilometres per charge.
To support the new e-taxis, the government will also set up solar-powered charging stations and service centres, initially in Lahore, before expanding to other cities across Punjab.
The scheme is expected to create thousands of jobs for drivers, mechanics, and charging station staff, while also helping to cut fuel costs and reduce pollution.
Launch and Next Steps
Set to launch in August 2025, the CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2025 marks a major step toward cleaner and safer mobility in Punjab. Interested applicants are encouraged to prepare their documents and keep an eye out for the PITB portal opening for submissions.
