Punjab Floods 2025: Over 4.7 Million People Affected, Rescue Efforts Underway
Punjab is reeling from its deadliest floods in history, with relentless rains and swelling rivers wreaking havoc across the province. According to Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed, 27 districts have been hit, and more than 4,700 villages have suffered significant flood damage.
Over 4.7 million people have been affected, with rescue teams working around the clock to relocate those in danger. So far, 2.638 million residents have been moved to safety. To support the displaced, authorities have set up 271 relief camps offering food and essential supplies, while 300 medical camps ensure access to healthcare.
Livestock has also been a focus, with 283 veterinary camps established and more than 2.117 million animals relocated to safer areas.
Tragically, 134 lives have been lost, and 13 people have sustained injuries in flood-related incidents. Commissioner Javed assured that, following directives from Punjab’s Chief Minister, all losses will be compensated. A comprehensive damage assessment will begin on September 24, and compensation will be delivered through a transparent process.
Some of the most devastating scenes have emerged from mouza Kak Shaal, where an entire village has been swallowed by sand, leaving no homes, tractors, or livestock behind. Millions of acres of standing crops have been destroyed, and thousands of homes washed away as floodwaters, worsened by water releases from India, swept through communities.
As waters slowly recede, the scale of destruction is becoming clearer, highlighting the urgent need for relief and rebuilding efforts across Punjab.
