Heavy Rain Alert in Punjab from July 5

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), heavy rain is expected to start on July 5. A PDMA spokesperson warned that many areas in southern and central Punjab may face dangerous weather, which could harm people and buildings.

Public and local authorities are being asked to stay alert and take steps to stay safe.

Safety Advice for Muharram

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia requested that people organizing Muharram processions follow strict safety rules because of the weather warning. He said:

Don’t stand on weak rooftops

Stay away from electric poles and wires
These steps are to avoid accidents.

He also advised people, especially those living near rivers or streams, to stay away from water crossings, as there is a high risk of flash floods, especially in Dera Ghazi Khan’s hilly areas.

Security Measures for Muharram

The Punjab government has put Section 144 in place across the province from June 27 to July 6, 2025 (1st to 10th Muharram). This means:

Only approved Muharram processions and gatherings (majalis) will be allowed.

No new events or changes will be allowed without permission.

This decision was made to keep people safe, promote religious peace, and stop any trouble during Muharram.
