Punjab Bans Smoking in Parks Expands Free Wi-Fi and Launches Anti Drug Force

Smoking Banned in Parks Across Punjab

The Punjab government has announced a complete ban on smoking and selling cigarettes in all public parks.

According to a new notification, Sections 5 and 7 of the Prohibition of Smoking Ordinance 2002 will now be strictly applied. This means cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and vapes cannot be used or sold in parks anymore.

Shops and cafes inside parks are also not allowed to sell any tobacco products. The Housing Department said that “No Smoking” signs will be placed in all parks, and park staff will ensure people follow the rules.

This decision is made to create a healthy and smoke-free environment for children, families, and all park visitors.

Punjab Starts Anti-Drug Force

In another major step, Punjab has launched a Counter Narcotics Force to fight drug use and sales in the province.

At the launch event in Lahore, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said her government will show zero tolerance for drug dealers. She promised to make Punjab drug-free.

Maryam Nawaz also inspected a parade and handed over the official flag to an officer of the new anti-drug force.

Free Public Wi-Fi Expanded in Punjab

Under the Chief Minister’s vision of a digital Punjab, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has expanded the free Wi-Fi service across the province.

In Lahore, the number of free Wi-Fi points has increased from 230 to 430. The service is now available in 22 districts, up from 11.

New areas with public Wi-Fi include Kasur, Murree, Gujrat, Sialkot, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, and more. This project is part of the plan to improve internet access in both cities and towns.
