Punjab Deploys Thermal Drones for Flood Rescue Operations

Lahore – Authorities in Punjab have introduced thermal imaging drones to strengthen rescue and relief efforts in flood-hit districts, including Sialkot, Sargodha, Gujrat, and Jhang.

The initiative, launched under the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA), has already supported more than 800 rescue operations by locating stranded residents and livestock. The aerial monitoring system allowed rescue teams to reach otherwise inaccessible areas cut off by rising waters.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the PSCA team on social media, calling their contribution vital in saving lives during the crisis. She highlighted that integrating drone technology with the province’s surveillance network has greatly enhanced Punjab’s disaster response capacity.

Officials confirmed that drones will remain part of rescue operations as forecasts warn of more heavy rainfall and potential flooding.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and CM Maryam Nawaz visited several flood-affected areas to oversee relief measures. Before his visit, NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider briefed the Prime Minister on the national flood situation and the ongoing rescue efforts.
