Qatari Riyal Hits 78 PKR Boosting Remittances for Pakistani Expats

Qatari Riyal Getting Stronger Against Pakistani Rupee

In recent weeks, the value of the Qatari Riyal (QAR) has been going up slowly but steadily compared to the Pakistani Rupee (PKR). On July 2, one QAR was worth 77.94 PKR. At the end of June 2025, it was 77.86 PKR. Earlier in the month, it was:

77.70 PKR on June 27

77.87 PKR on June 25

77.82 PKR on June 23

77.72 PKR on June 14

77.39 PKR at the start of June

This slow and steady increase shows that the QAR is staying strong in a fairly stable currency market.

1 Qatari Riyal = 78.02 Pakistani Rupees

How Exchange Rates Work
The value of QAR compared to PKR depends on how much people want to buy or sell each currency in the international market. Factors like trade, money sent home by workers, and the economic situation in each country matter a lot.

QAR is stable because it is fixed to the US dollar (1 USD = 3.64 QAR) and backed by Qatar’s strong economy, especially from selling natural gas.

PKR is unstable because it changes based on inflation, political changes, and how much foreign currency Pakistan has in its reserves.

What This Means for Pakistanis in Qatar
There are more than 125,000 Pakistanis living in Qatar. A stronger QAR is good for them because they can send more money home.

For example, sending 1,000 QAR:

In early June = 77,390 PKR

Now = 78,020 PKR

That’s 630 PKR more, which can help families in Pakistan with school, health, or daily expenses.

However, for people earning in PKR or saving in PKR, life in Qatar might get slightly more expensive, since many goods and services are imported and priced in stronger currencies.

About the Currencies
Qatari Riyal (QAR): Used in Qatar since 1966. It is fixed to the US dollar and controlled by Qatar’s central bank.

Pakistani Rupee (PKR): Pakistan’s currency since 1948. Its value changes based on the country’s economy and politics.

Experts believe that unless there is a major global or regional crisis, the QAR will likely stay strong in the coming months.
