Qatar and Egypt Deliver US Ceasefire Proposal to Hamas

Doha – Qatar and Egypt have presented a new peace proposal from the United States to Hamas, just hours after President Donald Trump outlined a plan in Washington calling for a ceasefire, the release of hostages within 72 hours, disarmament of the group, and a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The plan also envisions a post-war transitional authority overseen by Trump himself.

Speaking at a press conference, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said the Hamas negotiating team had pledged to “study it responsibly.” He added that another meeting would take place on Tuesday, this time also including Turkish representatives.

The latest discussions follow an earlier meeting on Monday in Doha between Hamas delegates and mediators from Egypt and Qatar. “It is still too early to talk about responses, but we are genuinely optimistic about this plan, which is comprehensive,” Ansari said.

Qatari officials also stressed their readiness to push for a truce in Gaza following Israel’s unprecedented strike targeting Hamas leaders in Doha earlier this month. Ansari noted that the US had provided security assurances, and Israel had promised not to attack Qatar again.

“The security assurances and commitments made by President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were very clear, under the guarantee of the US president, that Qatar will never be attacked,” Ansari said. “We are satisfied with the assurances we have received, including Israel’s commitment not to strike Qatar again in any capacity.”

Qatar, together with Egypt and the United States, has been leading efforts to broker a lasting ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, with several rounds of talks taking place in Doha.
