Singer Quratulain Balouch Injured in Brown Bear Attack in Gilgit-Baltistan

Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan — Renowned singer Quratulain Balouch was injured in a brown bear attack while camping in the Bara Pani area, a region known for its active wildlife, including brown bears and snow leopards.

According to officials, Balouch was camping in a restricted zone when the incident occurred. Faizullah Faraq, spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government, confirmed that she was rescued in an injured condition and immediately shifted to a hospital in Skardu. Hospital sources reported that she sustained injuries to both hands, with visible claw and bite marks, but her condition is stable and not life-threatening.

Regional Forest Officer Nooruddin said that the area where the singer was camping is known for frequent brown bear activity. He emphasized that while safe and designated camping zones exist, some tourists ignore restrictions and venture into risky areas.

In response to the attack, the Gilgit-Baltistan Wildlife Department has announced a two-month ban on private camping in Deosai National Park during September and October. Only government-approved hotels and rest houses will remain open.

“The goal is to protect both human lives and wildlife,” RFO Nooruddin said. “Tourists must follow safety guidelines to prevent such incidents.”
