Suspects Killed in Police Encounter Linked to Murder of Two Brothers in Raiwind
LAHORE – Two suspects accused of brutally killing two brothers in Raiwind over a petty dispute were gunned down in a police encounter on Wednesday.
According to officials of the Counter Crime Department (CCD), the suspects – Owais and Shehzad – were in custody and being taken to the crime scene for further investigation when their accomplices ambushed the police team in a bid to free them.
Police said the attackers, led by a man identified as Tauqeer, opened fire on the CCD team. During the exchange of gunfire, Owais and Shehzad were killed, while Tauqeer and others managed to escape. A search operation has been launched to track them down.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased suspects were allegedly involved in the shocking murder of two brothers, Wajid and Rashid, just days earlier. The victims were beaten to death by fruit vendors after an argument over Rs30 during the purchase of bananas.
The dispute began when the brothers bought a dozen bananas for Rs130 but did not have the exact change. A quarrel broke out, which escalated after the vendor called in his associates. The group attacked the brothers with extreme violence, leading to their deaths.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the assault lasted for hours, with many bystanders filming the incident on their phones instead of stepping in. Police also came under criticism for failing to respond in time to prevent the killings.
The incident has once again highlighted the disturbing trend of fatal violence over minor disputes in Pakistan, reflecting rising frustration, intolerance, and social breakdown.
