Flood Alert Remains in Effect Amid Heavy Hill Torrent Flows in Rajanpur: PDMA

RAJANPUR – The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has extended the flood alert until 3:00 am tonight due to persistent hill torrent flooding triggered by heavy rainfall in the Koh-e-Suleman region.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, multiple hill torrents across the Rajanpur district have witnessed medium to high flood flows over the past 24 hours. “Last night, floodwaters surged through the Rod Kohis, with the Chhachhar hill torrent alone recording a high flood flow of 37,200 cusecs,” the spokesperson stated.

Additional high flood flows were recorded in other streams, including 11,309 cusecs in Patok Rod-Kohi, 10,739 cusecs in Zangi Rod-Kohi, and a medium flow of 8,350 cusecs in Suri-Shimali hill torrent.

Despite the significant water volumes, the PDMA confirmed that no loss of life or property has been reported so far.

The department further noted that the third monsoon spell currently affecting the province is expected to continue until July 17.

Rod Kohi is a traditional flood irrigation system unique to semi-arid regions, utilizing water from mountain flash floods via hill torrents to irrigate foothill plains.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert.
