Monsoon Rains Raise Rawal Dam Water Level, Authorities Prepare for Spillway Release

ISLAMABAD – The ongoing monsoon rains have pushed the water level of Rawal Dam to 1,750 feet as of this morning. In response, authorities plan to open the dam’s spillways under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Nilore.

Rescue, security, and medical teams have been stationed at key points, including bridges, streams, and other vulnerable areas downstream, to manage the released water and ensure public safety.

The district administration has instructed all relevant departments to maintain close coordination and remain ready for immediate action, urging residents to contact authorities promptly in case of emergencies.

Officials have also advised the public to avoid drains and streams during this period.

Rawal Dam not only provides water to Islamabad and Rawalpindi but also plays a vital role in controlling seasonal rainwater. Effective management of the dam, along with weather monitoring, is part of broader measures to reduce the risk of urban flooding in the twin cities during the monsoon season.
