With three Sri Lankan players gaining ground on the former Pakistan captain after an outstanding start to their series against Afghanistan, Babar Azam leads the ODI rankings (824 rating points) for batters.
Pathum Nissanka moves up ten places to 18th after scoring a double century in the series opener, while Sadeera Samarawickrama moves up six spots to 41st after scoring a stunning half-century. Charith Asalanka advances five places to 15th overall after his undefeated 97 in the second match of the series. Virat Kohli is ranked third with 768 rating points, while Shubman Gill is ranked second with 801 rating points.
A new player took the top spot in the ODI all-rounder rankings in the meantime, having scored an incredible century against Sri Lanka. Former Afghanistan player Mohammad Nabi took the top rank in the most recent ICC Men’s ODI All-Rounder Rankings, ending Shakib Al Hasan’s dominance.
For nearly five years, Shakib has been the top player in 50-over cricket; but, a persistent injury worry and some strong recent performance from Nabi have caused a shift in the hierarchy.
After scoring an incredible 136 runs in the first game of Afghanistan’s three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, Nabi climbs to the top of the rankings for ODI bowlers. The 39-year-old also took a wicket in that match, moving up to eighth place.
With Kane Williamson expanding his lead (883 points) at the top of the list for batters following two centuries in the first Test against South Africa, there has been little to no movement at the top of the rankings. With 768 rating points, Babar is ranked fifth in the Test rankings.
After taking six wickets in that Mount Maunganui encounter against the Proteas, Kiwi pacer Kyle Jamieson did manage to get some distance on Bumrah. In an outstanding effort, the right-armer jumped six spots to eighth overall.
Following an 8* performance at the bat against South Africa, Jamieson climbs two spots to 13th on the list of Test all-rounders; Ravindra Jadeja of India continues to lead the field overall in that category.
After their series concluded Down Under, a number of stars from Australia and the West Indies also gained ground on the most recent T20I rankings.
Australia won the series 2-1, and after making strong contributions in all three games, Glenn Maxwell (up 11 places to 24th), Tim David (up 35 places to 27th), and David Warner (up 19 places to 36th) all moved up the batting rankings. Their West Indies counterparts, Rovman Powell (up four places to 25th) and Johnson Charles (up 12 spots to equal 38th), also did well.
In the T20I batting rankings, Pakistan’s Muhammad Rizwan is in third place with 800 rating points, closely followed by Babar Azam in fourth place with 764 points. At the moment, Surya Kumar Yadav holds the top rank with 861 rating points.
Adam Zampa has made the biggest move up the T20I bowling charts. The spinner has jumped five spots to equal 11th place behind Adil Rashid of England, while Marcus Stoinis of Australia has climbed three spots to second place among T20I all-rounders and is closing in on Shakib after his performance against the West Indies.
