Report: Mohammad Hafeez will lead the team on their trip of Australia and New Zealand

Mohammad Hafeez will lead the team on their trip of Australia

According to Cricinfo on Friday, Mohammad Hafeez, who was named Pakistan’s team director, will also lead the group in the forthcoming series against Australia and New Zealand.

After a dismal World Cup 2023 exit, skipper Babar Azam resigned, and the cricket association underwent a reorganization.

During the three Test matches in Australia and the five Twenty20 Internationals in New Zealand in December and January, Hafeez will play two roles.

Despite the fact that Hafeez hasn’t had any coaching experience up to this point, Cricinfo reports that the PCB’s current management “views the two roles as superfluous”.

Up until this year, PCB has not named a team director. Mickey Arthur, a remote candidate, inked a contract with former PCB chairman Najam Sethi.

When Arthur was not traveling with the team, he oversaw the players under Grant Bradburn’s direction and accompanied them on select series and tournaments.

“When both Arthur and Bradburn were with the side, it was felt there was no distinct difference between their specific jobs, something that has prompted the current PCB administration to do away with the extra role,” Cricinfo reported.

Shan Masood was named the Test captain and Shaheen Afridi the T20I captain by the Pakistan cricket board, marking a significant reorganization in the sport.

Furthermore, Wahab Riaz is now leading the competition for the chief selector role, which is still open.

The Pakistani side will travel to Australia on November 30 and will take on the Prime Minister’s XI in a practice match at the Manuka Oval on December 6–9. On December 14, the first Test will begin in Perth.
