During the next series against New Zealand, Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan is poised to break a significant T20I record presently held by Indian star batsman Virat Kohli and teammate Babar Azam.
After reaching the landmark in 81 innings apiece, Kohli and Azam are tied for the quickest players in T20I cricket history to amass 3,000 runs. Aaron Finch of Australia needed 98 innings to accomplish the same feat.
But in his last two innings, Rizwan will just need 19 more runs to become the fastest player to 3,000 runs in T20I cricket. He has scored 2,981 runs in 78 innings thus far.
In T20I cricket, Virat Kohli’s record for most runs is being approached by Babar Azam. Azam now stands third on the list of all-time T20I cricket run scorers with 3,698 runs scored.
With 4,037 runs, Kohli tops the leaderboard, and colleague Rohit Sharma is just behind him with 3,974 runs. To become the greatest scorer in Twenty20 International Cricket and the second player to reach 4,000 runs, Azam has to score 340 runs in the next five matches.
For those who do not know, Pakistan will begin hosting New Zealand in a five-match Twenty20 International series on April 18. The Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi will host the first three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches between Pakistan and New Zealand on April 18, 20, and 21.For the remaining two games on April 25 and 27, the action moves to Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The world of cricket fans will be watching closely as Rizwan attempts to exceed the records held by Azam and Kohli, which should make the forthcoming series exciting.
