Russia Hits Kyiv Captures Key Eastern Town

Deadly Russian Strikes Hit Kyiv and Eastern Ukraine

Kyiv, Ukraine – July 31, 2025:
Russia launched heavy drone and missile attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, early Thursday morning. At least 27 places were hit, killing six people, including a 6-year-old boy. City officials confirmed that 52 people were injured, and nearly 30 of them are now in hospitals. Nine of the injured are children.

“It’s a terrible morning in Kyiv,” said Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration. “Homes, schools, and hospitals were destroyed. Some people are still trapped under the rubble.”

Ukraine’s foreign minister Andriy Sybiga called the strikes “brutal” and asked the world to put more pressure on Russia to stop the war.

This deadly attack came just days after U.S. President Donald Trump gave Russia a 10-day deadline to end its invasion or face new sanctions. The war has now entered its fourth year.

Russia Captures Key Town in the East

At the same time, Russian forces claimed they had captured Chasiv Yar, a key military town in eastern Ukraine. If confirmed, it would be a major gain for Russia, which has been slowly taking more land in recent months.

Chasiv Yar is located on high ground and was important for Ukraine’s military. Its fall could allow Russia to move toward other major towns like Kramatorsk and Sloviansk in the Donetsk region. These towns are still home to many civilians and are key to Ukrainian defense.

Russia has made taking Donetsk a top goal and already claimed it as Russian territory back in 2022.

Thursday’s attack also follows a Russian strike on a Ukrainian training camp earlier this week, which killed at least three soldiers.

Ukraine is fighting to stop Russia’s summer attacks, which have reached areas that were mostly safe since the start of the war in February 2022.
