Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra : The redemption of 2020

Samsung galaxy s21 ultra is the latest iteration to the ultra-line-up after the S20 ultra and Note 20 ultra

The s20 ultra failed to live up to its name. With a hefty price tag and camera issues being prominent now and then along with the Exynos chipset which performed quite poorly compared to Snapdragon. It all seemed like a recipe for ” holocaust ” for Samsung.

Despite an early launch, the S21 ultra fixes those bugs and offers an overall great package.

DESIGN

This year the S series unveils a bold and sleek design that sets it apart from its competitors. According to Samsung, the s series introduces an all-new, iconic contour cut camera housing. In simple words, the s series adopts a rounded design language with the camera module curves into the body of the phone

The s21 ultra is massive, sitting at around 6.8 inches diagonally with a wait for it … a WQHD+ Amoled display. However, at 6.50 by 2.98 by 0.35 inches (HWD), the S21 Ultra is slightly shorter than the S20 Ultra (6.57 by 2.99 by 0.35 inches). Taller and narrower than the iPhone 12 Pro Max (6.33 by 3.07 by 0.29 inches).

DISPLAY

The display on the s21 ultra is an essential part of the phone: in the full WQHD+ resolution the colors really pop thus providing a enrich viewing experience. With a 50% improved contrast ratio, it delivers crystal-clear, immersive images, even when outside. And for the first time, users no longer have to switch between a 120Hz refresh rate and a Quad HD+ display — on S21 Ultra, you can have both at the same time. It even offers a 25% brighter picture at 1,500nits of peak brightness. Meaning it is viewable in almost every condition. And like the Galaxy S21 and S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra has Eye Comfort Shield to help reduce eye fatigue.

CAMERA

The camera on s21 ultra promises to offer a refined experience: with a quad-camera setup in the rear, it features a 108MP pro sensor, 12MP Ultrawide, and two 10MP telephotos with 3x and 10x optical zoom respectively. The fifth hole on the back of the phone is for the laser autofocus sensor, which was added to help with some of the focus issues on the main sensor and to reduce noise with zoom shots.

108MP sensor is capable of capturing 12-bit HDR photos with 64 times richer color data and more than three times wider dynamic range and features what Samsung calls is a new “remosaicing” process for converting 108-megapixels into the default 12-megapixel images.
The 10MP telephoto is where the S21 really shines. Both equipped Dual Pixel AF, the telephoto sensor gives users more flexibility in how they approach shots. It’s perfect for long-range shots and delivers a usable image even in low light conditions.

SPEC AND PERFORMANCE

Internally, the S21 line supports a snapdragon 888 chipset or Exynos 2100 chipset depending on the market you are in. With 12GB Ram for the 128GB and 256Gb variant and a whopping 16GB Ram for the 512GB variant. And yeah, no micro-SD card slot this time around. Equipped with a massive, 5,000mAh battery, and benefit from the latest and most power-efficient, 5nm chips; the S21 Ultra goes above and beyond in terms of battery life. In real-world use, the S21 was getting north of 7 hours of screen time. Outperforming the iPhone 12.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra runs Android 11 with Samsung’s OneUI 3.0 extensions. Samsung has also committed to delivering three years of Android upgrades; which means we should expect Andriod 12, Android 13, and possibly even Android 14 to land on the S21 Ultra.

ROUNDING OFF

Pricing for the S21 ultra in Pakistan will cost you around Rs 229,999 with the storage option narrowed down to 256GB and 12GB Ram but with the availability of 5G.

The S20 ultra spelled disasters for Samsung; which was even reflected in terms of sales figure with 8.2 million units shipped. The s21 ultra seems to turn things around for Samsung. With beefy specs and an all-around well-designed phone. It certainly is Samsung’s “redemption”.
