Dreyer’s Strike Secures San Diego Win as Unbeaten Run Continues
San Diego FC extended its unbeaten streak in MLS to six matches thanks to a decisive goal from Dreyer in the 66th minute.
The match began with a lively atmosphere in Los Angeles, where Denis Bouanga put the home side ahead in the first half. The moment was made even more special as Son received a hero’s welcome in his first appearance for LAFC.
San Diego responded through Hirving Lozano, who leveled the score in the 33rd minute with a clinical strike from the center of the box, marking his ninth goal of the MLS season.
Both Bouanga and Son had chances to regain the lead, but CJ Dos Santos was in top form for San Diego, making three crucial saves, including a spectacular diving stop on Son during second-half injury time.
The breakthrough came midway through the second half when Dreyer produced a brilliant solo effort to put San Diego ahead. Despite LAFC controlling possession for large portions of the match, they were unable to find an equalizer.
Son had a few near-misses, including a thunderous shot toward the far top corner in the 45th minute that Dos Santos brilliantly tipped over. Later, in the 74th minute, Son was set up for a one-on-one chance by Hugo Lloris’ long pass, but he was unable to get a shot off. He struck the post in the 78th minute, and Bouanga, alone in front of the goal in the 82nd, hesitated too long to take his chance. Son’s late effort in the 92nd minute was again denied by a diving Dos Santos.
San Diego held on to claim a hard-fought victory, leaving LAFC to rue missed opportunities.
