Saudi Arabia Seizes Thousands of Motorcycles, Warns Riders of Strict Penalties

Riyadh – Saudi authorities have confiscated thousands of motorcycles across the Kingdom in a sweeping crackdown on traffic violations.

According to Sabq newspaper, Riyadh topped the list with 3,598 motorcycles seized, followed by Jeddah with 1,970. Other regions also reported confiscations, including 540 in the Eastern Province, 212 in Madinah, 211 in Makkah, 79 in Taif, and 45 in Jazan.

Officials stressed that once a motorcycle is seized for breaking traffic rules, it will not be returned under any circumstances. Riders have been urged to follow traffic regulations strictly, with authorities warning that violations put both the riders and other road users at risk.

This crackdown comes shortly after the Saudi Cabinet approved amendments to Article 74 of the traffic law, introducing tougher penalties for serious offenses. Under the revised rules, violators could face up to one year in prison.

For expatriates, the consequences are even stricter. Offenders may face deportation, blacklisting, and a permanent ban on re-entering the Kingdom if a court rules that their violation endangered public safety. The Ministry of Interior has been given full authority to enforce these measures.
