SC Hearing on Imran Khan’s Bail Adjourned, Documents to Be Reviewed
ISLAMABAD – During today’s hearing of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s bail appeals, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi noted that some documents had been submitted only a day earlier, leaving him insufficient time to review them.
Counsel Salman Safdar, representing Khan, clarified that the documents comprised solely court judgments. The Chief Justice emphasized that all documents on record must be carefully examined and instructed that any party intending to submit documents should do so on the same day. He also stressed that the prosecution must review any filings made by the defense.
The court subsequently adjourned the hearing until 10:30 am tomorrow.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to the Punjab government regarding appeals filed by the jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader. Chief Justice Afridi questioned whether final observations could be issued in a bail matter and directed the prosecution to prepare responses on the legal points raised.
Both Imran Khan’s legal team and opposing counsel were asked to assist the court on the identified legal issues. The Chief Justice clarified that the Supreme Court would not make any ruling that could impact another ongoing case involving the PTI founder.
The hearing was adjourned after the court decided that only the prosecution would receive notice for now. Both sides are expected to be ready with their legal arguments at the next session.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and comprising Justices Shafi Siddiqui and Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, is presiding over the proceedings.
