PM Shehbaz Forms Special Committee to Address Flood Damages, Condemns Mockery of Army Sacrifices

Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing a federal cabinet meeting, announced the formation of a special committee tasked with assessing flood damages and planning rehabilitation efforts. He emphasized that provinces must also play a role in compensating the losses caused by the devastating floods.

The committee will include all four chief ministers, relevant federal ministers, and senior officials. “The responsibility of addressing flood losses does not rest solely with the federal government,” the prime minister stated.

At the start of the meeting, PM Shehbaz paid tribute to Major Adnan Aslam, who was martyred in Bannu while saving a comrade during an operation against militants of Fitna-e-Khawarij.

The prime minister strongly condemned the ridicule of Pakistan Army’s sacrifices on social media, calling it completely unacceptable. “This menace must be crushed. Those who mock our martyrs—whether inside or outside the country—must be identified and brought to justice,” he asserted.

He further warned that targeting the military leadership online is intolerable and described it as a national duty to eliminate such malicious campaigns.

Meanwhile, Pakistan continues to grapple with the catastrophic 2025 floods, triggered by relentless monsoon rains, flash floods, and glacial lake outbursts. The disaster has claimed over 800 lives and affected more than 1.2 million people across multiple provinces. Communities have been devastated, infrastructure destroyed, and economic losses are estimated to reach up to $50 billion.
