PM Shehbaz Meets Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Highlights CPEC Progress and Strong Bilateral Ties
ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Islamabad on Thursday, underlining the deep-rooted friendship and strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for Pakistan’s socio-economic growth and regional connectivity. He expressed satisfaction over the steady progress of CPEC Phase-II, highlighting its pivotal role in the country’s development.
PM Shehbaz also conveyed Pakistan’s gratitude to the Chinese leadership, government, and people for their consistent support in safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national development. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for China on its core issues and reiterated the country’s commitment to further strengthening the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two nations.
Speaking highly of President Xi Jinping’s visionary leadership, the Prime Minister praised his efforts in solidifying the “ironclad” friendship between Pakistan and China. Reflecting on his productive meeting with President Xi during his visit to Beijing last year, PM Shehbaz expressed eagerness for his upcoming visit to Tianjin and Beijing. He is set to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of State meeting and the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The Prime Minister also looks forward to meetings with President Xi, Premier Li Qiang, and other senior Chinese officials during the visit.
On his part, Foreign Minister Wang Yi described Pakistan as an “ironclad friend” and all-weather strategic partner of China. He praised Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and affirmed China’s continued collaboration with Pakistan to foster regional peace, stability, and development.
Wang Yi expressed China’s desire to take bilateral ties with Pakistan to even greater levels of cooperation and collaboration.
