PM Shehbaz Receives Historic Welcome in Saudi Arabia, Signs Key Defense Pact

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a grand welcome on his arrival in Saudi Arabia, where his aircraft was escorted by Royal Saudi Air Force jets before being greeted with a ceremonial guard of honour by the Saudi Armed Forces.

Calling it an “unprecedented reception,” the Prime Minister said the warm welcome reflected the “deep love and mutual respect” that bind Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

During his meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, both leaders held wide-ranging talks covering regional challenges, security, trade, and opportunities to boost cooperation.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Shehbaz praised the Crown Prince’s vision and leadership, reaffirming Pakistan’s strong commitment to strengthening ties with the Kingdom. He also highlighted the importance of expanding Saudi investment and business links, thanking the Crown Prince for his consistent support.

The Prime Minister prayed for the Pakistan–Saudi Arabia partnership to “grow stronger and reach new heights” in the years ahead.

A joint statement from the PM Office confirmed that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had signed a landmark defense pact. The agreement commits both nations to enhance defense cooperation, strengthen joint deterrence, and treat any aggression against one country as an attack on both.

The statement emphasized that this pact builds on an eight-decade-old partnership rooted in brotherhood, Islamic solidarity, and shared strategic interests.
