PM Shehbaz Sharif Urges Action Against Israel at Doha Summit
Doha: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for urgent international action against Israel during the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha on Monday. He stressed that Israel must be held accountable for its alleged war crimes and urged the global community to take decisive measures.
Speaking at the summit, the Prime Minister reiterated the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) demand to suspend Israel’s membership from the United Nations. He also encouraged member states to explore additional measures against Israel.
Shehbaz Sharif called on the UN Security Council to invoke Chapter VII of the UN Charter to enforce an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire. He urged the release of hostages and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, alongside guaranteed humanitarian access for civilians in need. The Prime Minister also emphasized the protection of aid workers, medical teams, journalists, and UN personnel operating in conflict zones.
Highlighting the long-term solution, he stressed the urgent need for a just and lasting two-state solution, advocating for the establishment of an independent State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
The Prime Minister condemned Israel’s recent attack on Doha, calling it a provocative move aimed at undermining peace efforts in the Middle East. He expressed Pakistan’s full support and solidarity with Qatar, praising its consistent diplomatic efforts to bridge regional divides and promote peace.
Shehbaz Sharif described Israel’s ongoing campaign in Gaza as “genocidal,” stating that over 64,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children, have lost their lives. “The level of injustice has become unbearable and must end now,” he asserted.
