Shehbaz Sharif Meets Trump in Washington, Discusses Peace and Regional Issues

Washington, D.C. – Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a high-profile meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., discussing matters of mutual interest alongside global and regional developments.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the talks highlighted peace efforts in the Middle East, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank. Shehbaz Sharif praised Trump as a “champion of peace,” acknowledging his decisive leadership and pivotal role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. He also commended Trump’s initiatives aimed at ending the war in Gaza and his plan to bring together key Muslim leaders in New York later this week.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister extended an invitation to Trump to visit Pakistan. The Prime Minister’s Office described the discussions as “friendly and cordial.” The session was also attended by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Trump’s Remarks

Ahead of the meeting, Trump spoke to reporters at his office, expressing admiration for the Pakistani leadership. He highlighted both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as “great leaders” and praised their stewardship of Pakistan.

Red-Carpet Welcome in Washington

Prime Minister Shehbaz, in the U.S. to attend the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, was received with a red-carpet welcome at Andrews Air Base by a senior U.S. Air Force official. His motorcade later departed under tight U.S. security measures as he traveled to the meeting with Trump. After the discussions, he was scheduled to return to New York to address the UN General Assembly.
