Sindh Government on Alert as Floodwaters Approach from Punjab

Karachi – Sindh’s provincial authorities have assured the public that all preparations are in place to manage the flood situation, even if heavy rains coincide with the incoming waters.

Speaking to the media, Provincial Minister Sharjeel Memon said the government is closely monitoring the flow of floodwaters entering Sindh from Punjab. “At the moment, there is no emergency in Sindh,” he added.

Memon also noted that Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto has been in regular contact with the Chief Minister and other provincial ministers to stay updated on the water situation. “We are prepared to tackle the situation and minimize any potential losses,” he said.

The recent floods in Punjab have been triggered by both extremely heavy rainfall and the release of water from India into the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, causing widespread damage to life and property.

While the Indus River, the lifeline of Sindh, has remained mostly below flood levels, water from the Chenab, Sutlej, Ravi, and their tributaries will eventually discharge into it, increasing the river’s flow as it enters the province.

Currently, all three major barrages in Sindh—Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri—are experiencing low flood levels. Authorities, however, are closely watching the situation as the Indus is expected to swell with floodwaters from Punjab in the coming days.
