Sindh Sets Up Rain Emergency Cell to Assist Farmers Amid Flood Threats
Hyderabad, Sindh – The Sindh government has established a rain emergency cell at the office of the Director General of Agriculture in Hyderabad to provide immediate assistance to farmers during emergencies.
Sindh Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Maher announced that focal persons have been appointed across all 30 districts, and emergency centres have been set up at the district level throughout the province.
He instructed officials to remain on duty in all districts, including Larkana, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad, with daily updates to be submitted to Agriculture Secretary Muhammad Zaman Narejo.
Officials from the Agriculture Department’s engineering wing have been ordered to keep bulldozers and other machinery ready, ensuring that district administrations can access equipment immediately when needed. The DG Agriculture Extension Sindh will oversee the implementation of the emergency plan.
“Officers must stay in close coordination with the PDMA and other relevant institutions,” Sardar Muhammad Bux Maher said. “Farmers affected by floods across Sindh will receive prompt relief. Climate change has increased the risk of floods, making preparedness essential.”
The Sindh Chief Minister has also designated ministers to monitor the left and right banks of the rivers. Emergency arrangements will remain in place to ensure a quick response for farmers in case of disasters.
