SOCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS

Social Success:

What is social success? When you can function in a way without sacrificing who you are and what you want to communicate or say and so when you’re socially successful, people around you when in need of advice, motivation, encouragement, or to make negotiation will approach you. They know you’re the right person who will make them feel comfortable and will make them feel safe. Who will truly listen to them?

A good interpersonal communicator must have the ability to engage in a satisfying conversation in any social setting so that it turns out to be comfortable, enjoyable, and satisfying for both parties and we call such people socially intelligent people or socially successful people. These people are good at developing interpersonal relationships.

Let’s say some people are good at communicating and interacting with their friends but at the same time, they don’t know how to interact with their colleagues at the workplace. So the point here to highlight is that socially intelligent people interact with people at all levels expertly. They think and behave in such a way that they communicate their message very masterly with the people and at the same time, they make them feel at ease., providing room for comfort while keeping in mind the demands and needs of the situation.

Socially intelligent people first assess the comfort level of the next person with whom they are interacting. What is a comfort level? Well, we can say it is a range or a level at which one person functions with ease, feel safe, and faces no discomfort.

Every person has their own comfort level and so it is important as a good interpersonal communicator to know the comfort level of the next person, to wisely assess it, and then to adjust yourself accordingly. If the communicator feels that the receiver of the message is feeling uncomfortable then the communicator should make space and room for comfort.

Socially intelligent people do not exaggerate about their hardships to receive pity, sympathy, or support neither they promote their accomplishments and achievements. They don’t quickly outburst on the criticism they receive rather they listen to it first and then respond to it.

The main focus of socially intelligent people, when involved in a conversation, is to communicate their message effectively. They speak in a calm, simple, precise way as their ultimate goal is to convey the message and not just get a response from the receiver.

Socially successful people are good listeners. They with an open mind listen to the perspective of the other and what they have to say instead of arguing with the next person to prove them wrong. They truly focus on what is being said by the next party. Their focus is never on the fact that how they will respond as they listen to hear and not to respond.

People who are socially intelligent work on themselves tirelessly. They put effort to make themselves better every day by working on their communication skills which involve both verbal and non-verbal skills, listening skills, studying people closely as to how they speak, their gestures, body language. They tend to learn the art of Emotional intelligence to study how people feel and think. This is how you gain social success which is through being socially intelligent.

Professional success:

When we talk about social success there is no target or goal to achieved. Here when I talk about professional success there comes a goal, an objective that should be achieved.

A survey was conducted a few years ago where they looked for the positive personality traits and these were those traits that if an individual had they were considered as professionally successful.

Easy Going:

A person must be easygoing means possessing such behavior or an attitude that is calm, relaxed, tolerant, controlled, and polite. The next was flexibility. Flexibility is mean when a person adapts himself or herself according to the needs and demands of the situation. Where the person is not rigid or has a fixed notion rather he or she is open to the changes that are demanded by the environment or circumstances. People who possess flexibility are professionally successful as they respect the differences.

Since we are living in an era of globalization and diversification where we have to interact with people belonging from different cultures, backgrounds, having different values, norms, traditions, and languages. People with the trait of flexibility have their likes and dislikes, opinions, and perspective but they don’t tend to devalue those of others. They mold themselves when needed according to the situation. They learn, take constructive criticism, and don’t consider themselves always the right person. When we talk about respect it does not means mechanical respect rather it means that truly accepting the differences.

Positive Attitude:

A positive attitude(Tolerance) means before having a positive attitude towards other people you should also have a positive attitude towards your own self. Being at a workplace and being surrounded by different people who have different talents and have unique personalities. Some might be more creative than you others might have more scope in marketing let’s say or there might be a situation where the boss prefers the idea given by your colleague so in circumstances like these it gets really easy to get de-motivated, discouraged.

when you change this negative energy into positive energy by respecting others, their success instead of criticizing and by respecting yourself, the hard work you performed even if your idea was not to get to choose by your boss then that’s what a positive attitude truly means. Because when you treat yourself kindly that’s when you treat others around you kindly, with respect, and motivate them at times of need. Those who possess such attitudes are professionally successful.

Accommodative:

Another trait that was the result of the survey conducted. It means being open to communication. Listening to the queries. Being open to hearing the problems of those of your employees. It means that when any of your employees face a problem they should know and feel safe in approaching you regarding their problem knowing that they would be heard and a solution to their problems would be given to them

Problem-solving:

Lastly, is problem-solving which can only be done by those who possess all the above traits. Being good listeners they listen to the problem carefully to solve it. They keep in mind the differences and everyone’s interests. And from all the possible solutions they tend to choose one.

Through these five traits, professional success can be achieved, people who possess these traits and who enhance them are truly professionally successful individuals in their lives.
