Sophie Turner Cast as Lara Croft in Amazon’s Upcoming Tomb Raider Series

Amazon MGM’s highly anticipated Tomb Raider series, based on the iconic video game franchise, is set to move into production in January 2026, following years of development that began in 2023.

According to Variety, Sophie Turner, known for her breakout role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, has been cast as the legendary adventurer Lara Croft. Turner, who has also portrayed Jean Grey in the X-Men films and recently appeared in the British crime drama Joan, will bring a fresh take on the globe-trotting heroine.

The series is being created, written, and executive-produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, with Chad Hodge joining as executive producer and co-showrunner. Jonathan van Tulleken is set to direct. Amazon MGM first teased the project in 2024, promising an epic vision for Lara Croft’s story.

Turner’s casting marks a major milestone for the series, ending years of speculation about who would take on the role. Fans are already praising the choice, expressing excitement about her portrayal of the adventurous heroine. Production is scheduled to begin early next year, with anticipation building for what promises to be a thrilling addition to the Tomb Raider legacy on Amazon Prime Video.

Turner Opens Up About Social Media Struggles

The news comes shortly after Turner shared candid reflections on the impact of social media during her early career. The actor revealed that growing up in the public eye, particularly while starring as Sansa Stark, took a significant toll on her mental health.

“I was only 13 when I started on Game of Thrones, and social media was just beginning to explode,” Turner said. “I had a couple of years of peace, and then I had to adjust. It had such a profound impact on my mental health, more than I could tell you. It almost destroyed me on numerous occasions.”

Turner’s openness about her experiences has resonated with fans, highlighting the challenges faced by young actors in today’s digital age.
