Muhammad Rizwan, a batter and wicketkeeper, was named Pakistan T20 team vice-captain on Monday.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made the announcement about the development on X, which was earlier known as Twitter.
The board stated in their post that “@iMRizwanPak has been appointed vice-captain of Pakistan’s T20I team.”
As Shaheen Shah Afridi’s deputy in the team for the shortest format of cricket, Rizwan will succeed Shadab Khan in the much sought-after position.
It should be mentioned that Rizwan was recently given preference by former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi over left-arm fast Shaheen for the T20 team’s captaincy, a move that sparked controversy.
During a speech in Australia, Afridi praised the wicketkeeper-battler and said that he should head the T20 team rather than his son-in-law Shaheen.
The great all-around player of his day expressed admiration for Rizwan’s level of focus and hard effort. His ability to concentrate solely on his game and disregard the actions of others is his strongest feature, and my favorite trait. He truly is a fighter!
Lightheartedly addressing the left-arm quick who was seated behind him at the ceremony, Afridi remarked, “I want to see him [Rizwan] as the T20 captain but mistakenly, Shaheen became the skipper.”
