Star player Lionel Messi of Inter Miami may be saying farewell to his team for a while as he has been included in Argentina’s 29-man roster for the country’s upcoming friendlies next month.
According to ESPN, the World Cup-winning skipper is anticipated to return to his home country in time for their June 1 match against Ecuador and Guatemala, where they will play for the Copa America championship.
The Copa America, which Argentina is the defending champion after won in 2021, will take place in the United States from June 20 to July 14.
22 of the 26 players in Lionel Scaloni’s squad are from the Qatar 2022 Fifa World Cup winning squad, which includes Messi and Angel De Maria.
As per the announcement made last week by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), the final Copa America teams consist of 26 players per nation and are expected to be announced by June 15.
Messi’s Argentina will play their Copa America opener in Atlanta on June 20 against either Canada or Trinidad & Tobago. From there, they will go to New Jersey to play Chile and Peru in Florida.
