Portuguese defender Joao Cancelo of FC Barcelona has released a video titled “FIFPRO” including his “top five” list of all-time great football players.
Many Barca supporters were upset that he left off any current players from his list, which featured a number of former teammates from Manchester City, according to FC Barcelona Noticias.
It’s interesting to note that he entirely ignored Lionel Messi, a Barcelona great who plays for David Beckham’s Inter Miami right now.
Rather, he used his fellow countryman Cristiano Ronaldo as the attacking reference.
Cancelo selected Brazilian Ederson to start in goal, complimenting him on his footwork, consistency, and ability to maintain the goal unassailable at crucial times.
He mentioned Ruben Dias in defense because of his character and leadership on the field, calling him a fighter who gives it his all.
Cancelo selected Bernardo Silva of Barca to start in the middle.
In addition to praising his intelligence and dedication to the squad, he highlighted his ability to run the whole game, covering half of 13 or 14 kilometers.
He selected Ronaldinho as his all-time favorite player to play beside himself.
Finally, Cancelo selected CR7 as the lone striker because he views the player as a Portuguese great and an inspiration to all young people who aspire to play professional football.
